What to do if you have a swarm

Do not panic - Swarm's are generally docile, while it can be confronting to see thousands of bees forming a swarm they are just looking for a new home

Why do bees swarm?
Bees swarm as part of the natural cycle of producing new colonies. Generally the old queen will leave with upto half of the hive in an attempt to find a new home. In Australia (Melbourne) swarm season is around September - December although this can vary greatly depending on weather etc. It's estmated only 25% of swarms will survive.

So what can you do?

  • Keep pets and children away from the swarm

  • Often swarms will move on within a few hours, can be days in some cases

  • Do not spray them with water or try to kill them

  • Give us a call or message, for a small fee we can collect the swarm and give the bees a proper home.

  • Ultimately keep calm stay clear and call a registered beekeeper for advice
